If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? We’re not qualified to answer such questions, but we know of one that fell 50 years ago, and it’s still making noise today.
This is the story of ‘The Tree’.
A giant, 500-year-old mahogany 100-feet tall and 31 feet around that came crashing down into the Belize jungle in the 60’s. There it lay undisturbed for a decade, slowly being reclaimed by jungle until a guitar playing adventurer - Melvyn Henri, who deals in unusual wood, decided to drag it piece-by-piece out of the ravine where it lay and turn it into some of the most sought after guitars in the world.
Now played by the likes of Slash and Andy McKee, the guitars are prized for the distinctive ‘quilted’ pattern of the wood and the exquisite craftsmanship that comes with the hefty price tag on such rare and beautiful wood.
In this exquisite design, we’ve captured the legend of the Tree and put it on a T-shirt so you can carry a part of musical lore with you wherever you go. So now when people ask you about it, you can pass on the story.
